Piste Technical Lessons
Iron out long-standing alignment habits or refine your high-speed carving performance. These structured sessions focus on biomechanical efficiency, deep edge purchase, and pressure control across steep runs and groomers.
Welcome to White Soul Ski Co. I'm Terry Walker, an independent private ski instructor operating in Val d'Isère and Tignes. I provide bespoke piste development lessons, performance training, and safety-focused technical guiding.
When you book a private session with me, you are investing in highly refined, individualized progression. As an independent provider, my calendar fills up based on direct client referrals. Whether your goals involve dynamic high-speed piste carving or safely breaking past standard boundary lines into deep snow fields, my technical curriculum is built to help you master the terrain.

Learn how to read complex snow pack variations, maintain central balance in heavy powder, and navigate steep, narrow lines. This instruction bridges the gap between piste mechanics and true all-mountain fluid mobility.
Full Off-Piste Guiding Overview →Discover untracked backcountry runs beyond the lift lines. My touring courses focus on efficient skinning technique, uphill pacing management, kick-turns, and comprehensive mountain safety.

"Booking private lessons with Terry completely changed how I ski. His background as an instructor trainer means he diagnoses technique issues instantly. Best ski coach in Val d'Isère by a mile."
"I was nervous about heading off-piste, but Terry's technical guidance and calm approach made me feel entirely safe. We skied incredible lines away from the crowds. Highly recommend Terry Walker ski instruction."
"Terry spent a full day with our family in Tignes. He kept the kids fully engaged while coaching us through tricky snow conditions. A phenomenal, safety-focused independent instructor."
Standard half-day sessions run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (full day 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) at the base of the Solaise Télécabine (gondola terminal) in Val d'Isère, directly under the large digital clock and thermometer sign. Alternative meeting locations across Tignes Le Lac or Val Claret can be fully arranged via WhatsApp prior to departure.
Yes, mixed ability groups, snowboarders, splitboarders, and telemark skiers are completely welcome. I am fully certified as a basic snowboard instructor as well. However, please note that for mixed-ability groups, our physical trajectory and pacing are bound by the safety and attention required by the least experienced member of your group.
Choosing an independent private ski coach guarantees that you are learning from a highly qualified professional dedicated to your exact needs, rather than a rotating instructor from a large corporate school. My qualifications as a BASI Trainer mean you get elite technical analysis tailored to unlock fast, sustainable progression.
Lessons go ahead if the lift infrastructures are spinning. In the event of high alpine wind closures or extreme whiteout anomalies, we adapt our routes to low-altitude treeline tracking grids or modify timing layout frameworks according to standard operating terms.
I’m Terry Walker, an independent British ski instructor and off-piste guide based in Val d’Isère, working across Val d’Isère and Tignes through White Soul Ski Co.
I grew up in Reading, studied economics, worked in the City for five or six years, burned out, took what was supposed to be a one-year sabbatical in the mountains — and never went back. Skiing, climbing, mountaineering, surfing and freediving became less of an escape and more of a life. Fifteen winters later, I’m still here.
I hold the BASI Level 4 ISTD qualification with Eurotest, am fully qualified and insured to teach in France, and have spent over 15 seasons coaching everyone from first-time children to advanced skiers, instructor trainees and long-term private clients. I’m also a qualified teacher, a climbing and mountaineering instructor, a trainer and assessor, and somehow still a father to a one-year-old who is already being quietly prepared for ski boots.
My teaching is calm, clear and highly personal. I don’t believe in generic ski school lessons, endless “follow me” laps, or overloading people with technical jargon. Good coaching should be useful. It should give you something precise to feel, practise and take away. Sometimes that means confidence-building. Sometimes it means physics, biomechanics and honest technical feedback. Sometimes it means knowing when to stop for hot chocolate.
Most of my season is filled with returning clients — families I’ve taught for years, children who started skiing with me at five and are now throwing backflips, and private clients who have become good friends. Around 80% of my work comes from repeat bookings, many made a year in advance.
Val d’Isère is my home mountain. I know the quiet pistes, the lunch spots, the owners, the shortcuts, the snow, the weather patterns and the secret places that still hold good turns long after everyone else thinks the powder is gone.
White Soul Ski Co. is about giving people access to a better mountain experience: private coaching, off-piste days, ski touring, family skiing and bespoke trips built around the people in front of me. Professional, discreet, adventurous and personal — with just enough soul to remind you why we all came to the mountains in the first place.
