The Expedition Philosophy
True adventure lies in the spaces between lines on a map. Our expeditions are designed to take small, dedicated groups of skiers into environments untouched by commercial tourism. This is not about manicured slopes or mechanical lift queues, it is about discovering local cultures, navigating untouched powder, and learning the high-level decision-making required in the deep backcountry.
Every expedition is guided and coached by Terry Walker. We limit group sizes and structure itineraries to focus on individual progression and experiences. You will not only ski pristine snow; you will develop skills in route setting, terrain analysis, wilderness safety, and self-sufficiency.
What Makes Us Different?
- ❄️ Elite Coaching: Ongoing technique feedback in variable, wild snow.
- ❄️ True Remoteness: Carefully scouted areas far away from resort crowds.
- ❄️ Uncompromising Safety: Expert emergency management and group protocols.
- ❄️ Local Integration: Yurts, local boats, horses, and family homestays.
Wild Remote Destinations
Explore our curated global expedition areas. Each destination offers a unique combination of culture, terrain, and adventure.
Sail and ski in the Norwegian Arctic. Live aboard a private yacht, or stay in remote fishing houses. Navigating deep northern fjords to skin directly from the shoreline up aesthetic couloirs, ending with turns all the way back to the ocean.
Ski the Tian Shan range. Stay in traditional felt yurts, warmed by wood burners. Access untracked alpine basins using snowmobiles, horses, or skinning, finding cold continental powder and vast wilderness.
Ski the Pir Panjal range in Gulmarg. Experience massive Himalayan vertical drops, ski ancient pine forests, and skin alpine ridges at altitudes exceeding 4,000m for deep, dry powder.
Explore the Balkan peaks near Popova Shapka. Combine high-volume cat-skiing with short skins to access untouched bowls, open glades, and remote summits along the Kosovo border.
Tour the Kaçkar Mountains or Mount Ararat. Discover ancient, hospitable villages, skin over high volcanic cols, and descend huge slopes in a country where ski tracks are an absolute rarity.
Ski the deep powder. Stay in remote yurts, rustic wooden cabins, or 5 star hotels. Skinning through pine valleys and high peaks of the Caucasus range, famous for its legendary snowfall.
Hokkaido and Honshu backcountry. Explore perfect birch glades in the deepest, lightest powder on earth. End each day resting in natural, steaming geothermal onsens and enjoying local cuisine.
The ultimate frontier, with dog-sledding. Navigate vast plateau camps, fly into remote ranges, ski giant faces, and manage mobile logistics in camper vans along the stunning Kenai Peninsula and Chugach Range.
Meet Your Expedition Leader: Terry Walker
Running worldwide expeditions on skis since 2016 is not just a job for me, it's my life's passion. I specialise in designing and leading complex trips into remote areas where backup is far away and safety margins must be absolute.
Beyond my BASI Level 4 (ISTD) ski qualifications, I am a fully certified UK Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI), as well as an official trainer and assessor of both Ski Instructors, Mountain Leaders and climbing instructors. This training ensures that terrain awareness, high-altitude logistics, avalanche safety, and safety protocols are second nature.
I have spent years managing unique expedition challenges: being towed behind skidoos or local horses, sailing and docking boats in Norwegian fjords, setting up camps in freezing environments, sleeping in remote yurts, and managing transport logistics in developing regions. In these wild places, safety relies on thorough snowpack analysis, strict group management, and robust planning.
"Expeditions are about thorough preparation, local connections, and understanding risk. We go deep into the wilderness, but we do so with complete control and planning. Then we ski the powder."
Frequently Asked Questions
What level of skiing fitness is required?
You should be a confident off-piste skier, comfortable in variable snow conditions (crust, heavy powder, windblown snow, and trees) and capable of continuous skinning for 3 hours daily. A solid baseline of fitness is critical for your safety and enjoyment.
What equipment do I need to bring?
A full kit list will be provided, but you must have dedicated ski touring equipment: skis (95–115mm underfoot recommended for deep or variable backcountry snow), skins, touring bindings, boots with a walk-mode, and a standard avalanche safety kit (transceiver, shovel, probe). We can help coordinate local rentals for specific items if needed.
When should I book my flights?
Please do not book your flights until we explicitly confirm that the expedition has reached the minimum number of participants required to run.
Is specialized travel insurance mandatory?
Yes. Specialized winter sports insurance that covers search and rescue, helicopter evacuation, and high-altitude backcountry guiding is strictly mandatory. We highly recommend policies from the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) or equivalent local providers.
What is the client-to-guide ratio?
We maintain very low ratios, typically 1:4 to 1:6, depending on the complexity and remoteness of the destination. On complex expeditions, we often employ local logistics guides in addition to Terry to maximize safety.
